Remembering Henry James
The interdisciplinary research project Remembering Henry James, presented for the first time in Florence by Design of the Universe and Laverna. Net in 2013, will find its conclusion from May 2 through 9 in Genoa, with eight days of cultural events dedicated to the American author on the occasion of the Centennial of his death. The program suggests a scientific symposium, talks on literature, group exhibitions of contemporary art, personal art shows, outdoor and indoor installations, theatre and music performance, contemporary and classical dance, a wide range of events narrating the declinations of texts by Henry James into images from various perspectives.
The project dedicated to James as an exemplary traveller that passed long periods of his life in the famous Italian cities of art, has already obtained a precious network of collaboration in Florence and in Venice, which evidently facilitated the recent production of the film Caged and which will permit the publishing of a book containing all the scientific and cultural contributions collected in the course of five years of interdisciplinary research, in the nearest future.
On February 28th Florence celebrated the author with the official presentation of Caged at Spazio Cinema Alfieri, in collaboration with the Foundation Sistema Toscana. The film scenario written by the young artist Riccardo Visone is inspired by James’s text In the Cage and will soon start its itinerary between Genoa, Rome, Naples and Milan.
Remembering Henry James, conceived and curated by Beth Vermeer, will make its last performance in Genoa where James passed in 1877. Genoa, a responsive city towards literature and poetry, offers a precious scientific and cultural contribution to this event and to its promotion. Under the patronage of the City of Genoa and the City of Florence the program has already obtained a remarkable number of endorsements.
