Scottish Country Dancing about to restart!
Well, here we are again! The start of another enjoyable year of Scottish Country Dancing, full of SCD courses and events. Here are some dates for your diary:
Monday, 10 September 2018: 10-lesson course for all (beginners and intermediates) begins at All Saints Church, Via Solferino 17, Milan, 20.30-23.00.
Friday, 14 September 2018: 10-lesson course for all (beginners and intermediates) begins at L’Officina della Musica, via Giulini 14, Como, 20.30-22.00.
Bring flat shoes for dancing and water. Dress casual. The first lesson is free, so come and try. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it far more than you expect.
I will have for sale USB memory sticks with a professional film we had made of the 1st Milan Highland Ball (a fun souvenir!) and demonstrations of the various dances that we did on that occasion. The USB is also “double-face”, which makes it very useful for transferring data, videos or music between a PC and a smartphone (Android, not i-Phone). I would urge you to buy one as it should prove very useful during the course (as well as for private purposes). The cost is €25.
On the first weekend of October, a group of us will be going to a Scottish Reeling Night at the Caledonian Club in London. This event is fully booked. I only mention it to let you know that, in the last couple of years, we have started going to SCD events outside of Milan or Como. Maybe you would like to come too in the future?
The main purpose of these courses will be to prepare people for:
Saturday, 17 November 2018: St Andrew’s Night, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Via K. Adenauer, San Donato Milanese. A formal dinner-dance with live music from Scotland. Tickets €80. Book ASAP through me as numbers are limited.
Another external event will be on 1 December: the Aberfeldy Highland Ball at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, for some of us the third time we will have attended this hugely enjoyable event. Again, it is fully booked.
This will be followed by another major Scottish celebration (apart from Beltane, Hallowe’en and Hogmanay) next year:
Friday, 25 or Saturday, 26 January 2019: Burns Night, an informal dinner with haggis, neeps & tatties followed by a ceilidh dance, at All Saints Church, Via Solferino 17, Milan. Details in due course (more or less as in previous years). Numbers strictly limited, so don’t leave it too late to book.
Then, given the huge success of the 1st edition, we have decided to organise on:
Saturday, 26 May 2019: the 2nd Milan Highland Ball, again at the Hotel de la Ville, Monza. Details in due course (more or less as in previous years).
Further SCD courses will almost certainly take place during the rest of 2018 and 2019. The end of each course will usually be celebrated by a ceilidh dance. Details in due course.
Please pass this message on to anyone else you think might be interested. It would help if newcomers could let me know of your intention to come so that I can add you to the list of participants and have your e-mail address for future communications.
All the best,
